Banff Helicopter Elopement | Sergio & Samantha

Sergio and Samantha’s Banff helicopter elopement was the perfect mix of adventure, privacy, and incredible mountain scenery. When couples tell me their biggest priority is being surrounded by breathtaking landscapes on their wedding day, I know a helicopter elopement is going to be something special.

These two are no strangers to adventure. They’ve hiked to Everest Base Camp together! So when it came time to plan their wedding day in the Canadian Rockies, they wanted something that felt just as epic.

Why Choose a Helicopter Elopement

For Sergio and Samantha, the most important part of their wedding day was simple. They wanted beautiful scenery and a private moment together. Samantha especially loved the idea of photos that truly captured the scale of the mountains. Those wide landscape images where you see just how tiny the couple is compared to the peaks and alpine lakes around them. That’s one of the reasons a Banff helicopter elopement in the Rockies is so incredible. Instead of sharing a popular viewpoint with crowds, you can land somewhere completely remote. Then you can experience the mountains in total peace and quiet. Their families were also fully supportive of the plan. Samantha’s parents had actually eloped themselves, so they understood exactly why a small and meaningful ceremony in the mountains felt right for them.

Flying Into the Mountains for a Sunset Ceremony

For their Banff Helicopter elopement, we started with a first look near their hotel. After that, we drive to Peyto Lake for some pre-flight photos. Then we went to Rockies Heli Canada out of Nordegg, flying deep into the mountains for a private landing location. We intentionally chose a sunset helicopter flight so we could take advantage of the warm golden hour light that fills the valleys and lights up the peaks in the evening.

Once we landed, it was just the five of us surrounded by endless mountain views. Sergio, Samantha, their close friend who officiated the ceremony, myself as the photographer, and Ewen from Ringtail Films capturing some video. Because we were the only people there, the moment felt incredibly peaceful. Sergio and Samantha exchanged vows with the mountains stretching out in every direction, creating exactly the kind of quiet and meaningful ceremony they had envisioned.

A Secret Wedding Reveal

One of the best parts of Sergio and Samantha’s story actually happened months later. After their Banff helicopter elopement, they booked a venue celebration with friends and family. Buuuut… they didn’t tell anyone they were already married. During the event, they revealed their secret by showing a slideshow of photos and video from their mountain ceremony. It was the first time their loved ones saw their wedding day. How cool!
