FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is an elopement or adventure wedding?
Everyone has a different definition, but to me, an adventure wedding/elopement is an intentionally-planned day in an epic location, putting an emphasis on the experience rather than the “things”. Elopements typically have only a few (if any!) guests present, whereas weddings have anywhere upwards of 20. They take place in nature and involve things that represent your love of the outdoors.
We are super awkward. How will you get nice photos?
I think every single couple has worried about this. Don’t worry! To start, I always like to get to know you before our session, either in person or via facetime. This helps us get to know each other a bit, so it doesn’t feel like we are meeting for the first time on the day of. When I do start shooting, I mostly ask you to move and interact together as you normally would which allows me to capture candid and fun moments. I do give some direction and prompts but they aren’t forced or stiff. Mostly I use movement, music, feelings, and a whole lot of jokes to get you feeling comfortable and, most importantly, to get you having fun!
How much hiking do your couples do?
It really varies! I have locations that are nearby parking lots and others that are a two day hike in. It all depends on what you want for your elopement or wedding and what would make your day memorable and a perfect representation of you.
Where are you based? Do you travel?
I am based in Calgary, but I spend most of my time in the Rocky Mountains and across Canada. I especially love the mountains of Kananaskis, Banff, Canmore, and Waterton. I am also available worldwide, and have been lucky enough to shoot all over the world, including Africa, Scotland, Ireland, Yosemite, and Belize.
What happens if the weather is bad?
I don’t actually believe there is such a thing as “bad weather”. If you are keen, I am up for any weather! I always tell couples to embrace whatever Mother Nature brings because it will make for super unique and awesome photos. Some of the best light can be when the weather seems awful. Obviously, if there is a major lightening storm we won’t be hiking up to the top of a mountain for your Banff elopement, but otherwise I shoot in wind, rain, snow and everything else! For safety, I always keep a close eye on the local forecast and radars, especially if we are heading to the mountains. Weather can be unpredictable but also usually passes quickly. If for any reason we can’t photograph on the planned date, like in a blizzard in winter and the roads are closed, then we would reschedule.
What is your editing style?
I keep my photos very natural. I don’t follow trends or use filters because they never last and we end up laughing about them years later (hello sepia!). You are choosing to get married in an amazing place, so I want my photos to be a true representation of what the environment looked like on your day.
When should we book?
Typically, I start booking weddings a year in advance, especially for summer weekend dates. Elopements are often mid-week so can be booked anytime. I’ve planned some super fun elopements only a few weeks out, so don’t feel like you’ve missed the boat if you want to elope soon!
How do we book?
First of all, I like to chat (facetime/whatsapp/old fashioned phone call) with my clients so we can get to know one another! To reserve your date, you simply need to sign my contract and pay a non-refundable retainer fee. Then it’s officially and I am your adventure wedding + elopement photographer!
Can I see a full gallery?
Yes absolutely! What I choose to show on my website and social media isn’t always a full representation of an entire wedding or elopement. Simply ask me for a link to some recent galleries, and I’ll gladly send over some full examples of my work.
Who owns the copyright of the images?
I retain the copyright of the images from your wedding day, but my contract gives you a personal print release for any non-commercial use.
When will I see my images?
I send a sneak peak to you a few days after to tide you over, and you can expect an e-mail containing your full gallery within four to six weeks of your event.
How many images can we expect to receive?
All of my packages include the high resolution, edited digital files with an unlimited personal printing release. Typically you will receive about 40-60 photos per hour.
Can we add on other sessions or extras after booking?
Absolutely! You are welcome to add on sessions (including an adventure session), extra hours, albums, or a second shooter at any time. You can add hours on to your package at your wedding/elopement if needed! If you choose to have me stay longer, I’ll create an online invoice afterwards. You can also buy an album at anytime.
How do we order prints/albums?
You can order stunning, high-quality professional prints directly through your online gallery and so can your family + friends! Albums are created and designed by me – and with your input, tell the beautiful story of your day. There are multiple options available, and I will show you exactly how everything will look before ordering it.
