Laura was the best thing that could have happened to my husband and I when we were planning our hiking elopement. It is plain to see that she is a gifted photographer (our photos are incredible), and she was organized and diligent in every aspect of her business. From recommending locations and vendors to planning out timing and packing lists on the day of the ceremony, Laura helped us out so much every step of the way. Her husband even joined us on the hike to be our witness so we didn’t have to choose just one friend to come along. Can’t say enough good things about her!

Backcountry Camping Elopement

When T+A reached out and mentioned they wanted to do a backcountry camping elopement, I was thrilled. To me, this is the ultimate way to elope if you are outdoorsy and love to hike + camp.

FAQs

Reach out through my contact page and we will set up a time to chat and get to know one another. If I seem like the right fit for you, I’ll send you a contract to sign and an invoice showing the retainer fee to pay. Then you are officially booked in with me and we can start the planning process!

It really varies! I have locations that are easily accessible and others that are a two day hike in. It all depends on what you want for your elopement and what would make your day memorable and a perfect representation of you as a couple.

I think every single couple has worried about this, so you are not alone! During your session I get you to move and interact together as you normally would, which allows me to capture candid and fun moments. I do give some direction and prompts but they aren’t forced or stiff. Mostly I use movement, music, feelings, and a whole lot of jokes to get you feeling comfortable and, most importantly, having fun!

I am based in Calgary, Alberta but I spend most of my time in the Rocky Mountains. I especially love the mountains of Kananaskis, Banff, Canmore, and Waterton. I am also available worldwide, and have been lucky enough to shoot all over the world, including Africa, Scotland, Ireland, Yosemite, and Peru.

I don’t believe there is such a thing as “bad weather”. If you are keen, I am up for any weather! I always tell couples to embrace whatever Mother Nature brings because it will make for super unique and amazing photos. Some of the best light can be when the weather doesn’t seem ideal. I shoot in wind, rain, snow and everything else! I constantly monitor the local forecast and radars for safety, especially when heading up a mountain. Weather can be unpredictable but also usually passes quickly. I keep a day or two before or after your date available to guarantee a weather backup if needed.

I keep my photos very natural. I don’t follow trends or use filters because they never last, and we laugh about them years later (hello sepia!). You are choosing to get married in an amazing place, so I want my photos to truly represent what the environment looked like on your day.

Yes, absolutely! When you inquire with me, I send some full galleries in my initial email that match the location or vibe you want for your elopement. Once you book, I will also send you my location guide, which has a gallery attached to each location. This allows you to really get a good idea of what a particular hike or lookout looks like.

I retain the copyright of the images from your wedding day, but my contract gives you a personal print release for any non-commercial use.

I am proud to say that I hand select and edit every image in your gallery. I will send a few sneak peeks a few days after your session or even sometimes on the hike down so you can share the exciting day with your friends and family! My processing time for the full gallery during the busy season (May-Sept) is 6-8 weeks.

The digital downloads of the high res images are always free, however your online gallery also has a store full of high quality prints, albums, and gifts that you can purchase. The albums are made in Canada and are gorgeous keepsakes, so much so that I purchased one for my own wedding album!
