Sunrise Hiking elopement in the rocky mountains

Mia and KJ are two of the sweetest humans I have met and from start to finish of their elopement I felt like I was just hiking with friends. Conversation flowed, we laughed, and we all genuinely enjoyed hiking together at 3am! They came to me wanting a sunrise hiking elopement, and I will never say no to one of those. The light is always amazing, and we usually have the mountain all to ourselves. They didn’t have a specific hike in mind, but after hearing their vision I knew this would be the perfect spot.

A Perfect September Day for a Same-Sex Hiking Elopement

September in the mountains is the sweet spot — the weather is calm, the days are warm, and the fall colours are spectacular. For Mia and KJ, it couldn’t have been more ideal for their same-sex hiking elopement. On the morning of their hiking elopement we set off from the trailhead in the pitch black. My favourite part of sunrise hiking elopements is how the landscape is gradually revealed as the sun rises. Slowly exposing the peaks and valleys around us. It is truly fun to watch my clients amazement as they see their surroundings for the first time.

Having hiked a lot in the US, they absolutely crushed the hike to the peak. This meant we could sit and enjoy the dawn before getting ready to shoot at golden hour. They wanted to do a first look, so stood back to back as they put on their wedding outfits and got ready. After seeing each other for the first time and taking some couple portraits as the sun peaked the mountains, we shifted into their ceremony. The ceremony was simple, heartfelt, and deeply moving. There was no rush, no distraction. Just the warm, golden light of the morning sun illuminating their faces as they exchanged vows. Their words were sincere, speaking not only of love but also the journey they’d been on together, supporting each other through both personal and professional challenges.

To finish off their elopement day, they made coffee, a tradition of theirs. They also sat down to read letters of love and support from their family and friends. This is such a nice personal touch to add to your day if you decide to elope just the two of you.

Why Choose a Hiking Elopement?

Eloping in the Rockies was a reflection of Mia and KJ’s love for each other and their passion for the outdoors. It’s a wonderful choice for same-sex couples who value nature and simplicity over tradition. The decision to elope gave them the freedom to celebrate in a way that felt true to who they are as a couple. No pressure, no big event, just love and adventure. The fact that they had the entire trail to themselves only added to the experience. It was just them, surrounded by nature, creating a life-long memory together.

If you’re considering a hiking elopement, know that it’s all about what feels right for you and your partner. Whether you’re from the US or abroad, the Rockies have some of the most stunning locations for a hiking elopement. Your day will be as unique and adventurous as your love story.
