Peyto Lake Elopement in Banff National Park

A couple kisses during their elopement at Peyto Lake in Banff National Park

Peyto Lake Elopement in Banff National Park | Kendyll & Alex

As a Banff elopement photographer, I get to witness some truly incredible wedding days, but Kendyll and Alex’s Peyto Lake elopement had a little extra mountain magic. Their day took place at Peyto Lake, one of the most iconic viewpoints in Banff National Park. Sitting high above the turquoise lake along the Icefields Parkway, ithe wolf shaped lake never fails to take people’s breath away. Despite being a popular spot with tourists, there are ways to have this magical place all to yourself. just as Kendyll + Alex did.

A Surprise Proposal in Sedona

Before their Banff elopement, Alex had already set the bar pretty high. He secretly planned a trip to Sedona, one of Kendyll’s favorite places, and completely surprised her with a proposal there. The red rock scenery made the moment even more unforgettable. But Alex wasn’t finished. After the proposal, he pulled off another surprise—a massive engagement party with friends and family. As Kendyll joked later, it was “my worst nightmare of a proposal weekend!” Thankfully, it ended up being the perfect balance. They got to celebrate with everyone they loved, and then planned an intimate Peyto Lake elopement without the pressure of a big traditional wedding.

Snow, Sunshine, and a Perfect Peyto Lake Elopement

When we arrived at Peyto Lake for their Banff National Park elopement, the views were already incredible. Then the mountains decided to surprise us. Right as Kendyll and Alex stood together at the overlook, tiny snowflakes started falling from the sky—while the sun was still shining. It was one of those rare Canadian Rockies moments where the weather does something completely unexpected and absolutely perfect. And the best part? The snowfall showed up in the photos. The sunlight caught the snowflakes as they drifted around them, creating the most magical scene overlooking Peyto Lake.

After their ceremony, Kendyll told me something that meant the world to hear: “It was all I had dreamed of my whole life and exceeded my expectations with the beauty and ease of making it happen thanks to you, Laura.” Helping couples plan and photograph unforgettable Peyto Lake elopements is one of my favorite parts of this job. It’s truly so much fun to provide couples with their perfect day, no matter what that looks like. Read here for How to Elope in Banff National Park.
